There’s something special about Halloween night in the South Sound. The crisp fall air, the sound of kids laughing in costume, the smell of firewood, and the joy of going door to door. I used to take my kids trick or treating when they were little, and now I get to do that with my grandkids. Same streets, same traditions, just a few more gray hairs and a lot more fun-sized candy wrappers in my pockets.

If you’re still figuring out where to go tonight, I’ve got you covered. Whether you’re new to the area or just looking for a festive neighborhood with great decorations and generous candy bowls, here are my top picks for trick or treating in Thurston County and nearby communities.

These neighborhoods offer walkable streets, friendly faces, and yes, a few of them are known for full-size candy bars. But you didn’t hear that from me.

🍬 Meridian Campus — Lacey, WA

Spacious streets, festive spirit, and a few homes that go all out.

This is one of the best spots in Lacey for a reason. Wide sidewalks, friendly neighbors, and seriously impressive decorations. There are several homes here that are known for giving out the good stuff. I’m talking full-size bars and themed displays that make you stop for photos. Bring your flashlight and your walking shoes.

🍭 Edgewater — Lacey, WA

A quiet but festive neighborhood that really shows up for Halloween.

Edgewater feels tucked away but always delivers a great experience. The homes are close together, making it easy to hit a lot of doors in a short time. People here take pride in their decorations and you’ll spot everything from inflatable pumpkins to spooky porch lights. It’s one of those neighborhoods where kids leave smiling and parents feel good about the vibe.

Welcoming community feel with plenty of Halloween cheer.

Classic Heights is one of those places where Halloween still feels like the good old days. Kids in costumes, friendly conversations with neighbors, and streets that light up with jack-o-lanterns. It’s a great spot for families with young kids or anyone who wants a wholesome Halloween experience.

🍫 Continental Crest — Tumwater, WA

More space between homes but just as much heart.

Continental Crest may not be as tightly packed as some Lacey neighborhoods, but it makes up for it in charm. You’ll find big lawns with big decorations and welcoming neighbors who are ready with bowls full of candy. It’s worth the walk. And if you’re lucky, you might just hit one of those houses that hands out the mythical full-size Snickers. We all know that house.

After years of trick or treating in Thurston County, here’s what I’ve learned:

  • Wear layers — it gets cold quick
  • Cross at the corners and stay visible

Sitting in the hot tub on a rainy evening isn’t bad either. But if you’re looking for more to do than sip and soak, here are some of my favorite places in Thurston County to stay dry, stay active, and still enjoy the day.

    Whether you’re looking to entertain the kids, try something new, or unwind in a cozy spot, these indoor activities around Olympia, Lacey, and Tumwater are local-approved and ready for your next rainy day.

    1. Visit a Cozy Coffee Shop in Olympia or Lacey

    When it’s drizzling outside, nothing beats a warm cup of coffee and a seat by the window. Whether you’re looking for strong espresso, cozy vibes, or a spot to catch up with friends, these local coffee shops are worth a visit.

    • Olympia Coffee Roasting – Known for ethically sourced beans and smooth espresso. The downtown Olympia location is sleek, welcoming, and consistently named one of the best coffee spots in the South Sound.

                  Summer is in full swing, and there’s no better time to enjoy the vibrant local events happening around our beautiful community. We just pigged out (in the best way possible) at the Lacey South Sound BBQ Festival last weekend, and let me tell you, the smoky goodness was unreal. But there’s still so much summer fun to be had! Here’s my top picks for events happening right now and in the coming weeks:

                  Another highlight of summer in Thurston County is Capital Lakefair. This event is a local favorite, offering everything from parades and fireworks to live entertainment and food vendors. It’s a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate the season. I always look forward to the fireworks show over Capitol Lake—it’s truly a sight to behold.

                  Olympia Farmers Market

                  For those who love fresh produce and handmade goods, the Olympia Farmers Market is a must-visit. Open year-round, it really comes to life in the summer.                     Hey everyone!

                    Summer is here, and there’s no better time to dive into the endless activities Western Washington has to offer. Whether you’re a local or new to the area, there’s something for everyone. I recently had an incredible time at a Seattle Mariners game, and I’m excited to share more of my adventures around the Puget Sound with you!

                    A Day at the Ballpark

                    Thanks to Rob Rice Homes, I had the pleasure of joining their annual ball game night. Imagine this: 45 of us, all excited and ready for some baseball action, chartered up to Seattle and back. The Mariners game was thrilling—there’s something magical about the crack of the bat, the roar of the crowd, and enjoying a hot dog with friends. The evening ended with epic fireworks that lit up the sky, making the experience even more memorable. If you haven’t been to a Mariners game yet, I highly recommend it. It’s a great way to spend a summer evening with friends and family.

                    It was great hanging out with the team from Rob Rice Homes. Over the years, I’ve had the chance to work with them on several new construction projects, and I’ve always admired their dedication to quality and community. Joining them for the Mariners game was a fantastic way to relax and enjoy the summer while catching up with good friends and colleagues.
